WHAT IS A DYSREGULATED NERVOUS SYSTEM?
A dysregulated nervous system is one that is constantly in a state of either fight-or-flight or shutdown/freeze. This means that your body is in a constant state of stress or shutdown, which can lead to a whole host of health problems.
So how do you know if you have a dysregulated nervous system? Here are a few signs to look out for:
YOU’RE CONSTANTLY ON EDGE & CAN NEVER RELAX
If you're always feeling on edge and have trouble relaxing, it's a sign that your nervous system is in overdrive. You might find yourself jumpy or startle easily. You might also feel like you're always on the lookout for danger, even when there is none (i.e “I’m not safe” or “The world is not a safe place”).
YOU’RE ANXIOUS OR STRESSED
If you’re constantly feeling anxious or stressed, it’s a sign that your nervous system is out of balance. Chronic stress can lead to a number of health problems, including anxiety, depression, and even heart disease.
YOU’RE CONSTANTLY TIRED AND HAVE TROUBLE SLEEPING
If you have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep or you feel tired after a full night’s sleep, it could be due to a dysregulated nervous system. When your nervous system is out of balance, it can cause insomnia and other sleep problems.
