MONEY & THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
When we have a negative relationship with money, it can lead to dysregulation of our nervous system, and anxiety, overwhelm, shutdown and hyperarousal. The converse is also true - when we have a dysregulated nervous system due to trauma or illness, it can also affect our relationship with money and finances.
Given that 80% to 90% of our nerves are afferent (sending information from the body up to the brain) - regulating your nervous system can produce much better results than simply focusing on “money mindset” and negative beliefs around money.
REGULATING THE NERVOUS SYSTEM FOR FINANCIAL SUCCESS
To create a healthier relationship with money, start by learning how to up-regulate and down-regulate yourself as needed.
If you feel stressed, anxious, overly excited or hyper aroused when it comes to thinking about money or spending money, try to complete BALANCE exercises that “down-regulate” the nervous system and move you towards the Ventral Vagal or Stillness states.
If you go into shutdown, Dorsal Vagal or Overwhelm when you think about money and finances, complete BALANCE exercises that “up-regulate” your nervous system into a creative Play or Ventral Vagal state. This is where we can find balanced, open-minded and creative decisions in regards to finances.
Finally, we recommend combining the BALANCE exercises with somatic release work and shifting your money beliefs in order to improve your relationship with money and finances. When these beliefs are shifted on a nervous system level, the mind follows.
A balanced nervous system leads to more balanced long-term financial decisions, and increased openness to possessing and making money in creative ways that didn't previously come to mind.
